May 11, 2024 Milk and Wine Crinum Lily showing off and learning about daylily plant breeding

I did a daylily experiment with what I had on hand which was Wilson’s Yellow and Tuscawilla Snowdrift. I wondered what would happen if I crossed a large frilly daylily with a small no-frills daylily. What I got seems to be an in-between show of traits. Notice how the Tuscawilla Snowdrift made the bloom larger? Now I know the results seem like underwhelming results but what I have learned is valuable. I would want to make a cross between two very different parents that both have desirable traits. Recently, I have done this with seedling selections I am growing which will be shared later on as they bloom. One thing I have decided is to be a pod parent I will need to see a good bud count so I am getting much more selective lately.

May 9, 2024 Daylily Seedlings and Milk and Wine Crinum Lily starting to bloom

Stay tuned for the video next Saturday morning when I will share more blooms from this lovely Milk and Wine Crinum Lily. This is my garden journal where I keep up with what is blooming and other projects. I do not sell or trade seeds or plants but I don’t mind giving reviews and sharing facts about what I am growing. I used to have a seed store but I disliked the way it became a chore and now my gardening is a hobby.
