Harvesting Fresh Carrots: A Garden Adventure

My husband came outside while I was tending to the greenhouse asking for carrots. He was making a stew and needed some fresh carrots, not wanting to run to the store in the chilly evening air. I was doubtful because it had not been long enough since I planted them for the carrots to be the right size. However, with a sense of adventure, we decided to go and check the garden together. To my surprise, when we pulled some carrots from the soil, they were not only the right size for the stew, but they also looked perfect. It was nice to see how the garden brought us together for a while, even though we were both working on different things.

The problem was that the carrots were so delicious and sweet that my husband couldn’t resist and ended up eating half of them right there in the kitchen before putting the rest into the bubbling pot. I managed to get three or four bites of the crunchy, garden-fresh carrots, and each one was scrumptious, thanks to the cold weather that had intensified their natural sweetness and crispness. As the aroma of the stew filled the kitchen, I couldn’t help but smile, knowing that taking a moment to sow carrot seeds in the fall was worth it!
